Thousands have lived without Love
Not one without Water
Bottled water is sold everywhere, and it is believed that bottled water is healthy because the marketers have made us believe so. Many studies have been conducted recently which shows that the 40% of the water in the plastic bottles is tap water only.
The plastic reusable bottles are made up of Polycarbonate which is a monomer of Bisphenol A (BPA), as the plastic breakdown over time, BPA ( chemical compound ) is released into water which is held in Polycarbonate bottles particularly when the bottle is repeatedly washed and reused.
In a study1)http://blogs.ifas.ufl.edu/news/2014/09/22/dont-drink-the-warm-water-ufifas-study-says/ conducted by the University of Florida and Nanjing University in China which investigated the effects of storing 16 brands of bottled water at three different temperatures 39°F, 77°F, and 158°F, and they checked the levels of two substances.
- Antimony (a trace heavy metal).
- Bisphenol A (BPA) – in the water.
After 4 weeks they found that when the temperature is high and longer the storage time, there was an increase in levels of Antimony and BPA.
Effects of Bisphenol A on the Endocrine System
BPA can seep into the water we consume and affects the Brain, behaviour and Prostrate gland, causes Cancer, Diabetes, obesity, reproductive and developmental disorders. Also the studies have shown that BPA affect the Endocrine system hence causing problems related to Hormones like PCOS.
Studies2)https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23512349/ show that BPA exposure during adulthood can disturb the maintenance of normal ovarian functions by reducing E2. The steroidogenic proteins StAR and P450arom appear to be targeted by BPA.
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)
Polyethylene terephthalate is another material used to make BPA free bottles but PET being a soft plastic is more prone to contamination after multiple uses. Some studies suggest that PET bottles contain contamination of Fecal matter and saliva when reused.
Points to remember
For storage of water use only Copper vessels, Stainless Steel and glass containers. You can drink tap water but only after properly filtering the water with a quality filtration system.
Moreover Plastic bottles are hard to decompose and increase trash on our Mother Earth, ditch these disposable bottles, save money, live healthy and join a movement for support of global sustainability.
Tip – if it is very urgent and you don’t have water with you then please buy a water bottle which is BPA free or at least made of Clear plastic rather than colored or opaque.
